3 development projects completed in Ghazni, Helmand

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Three development projects worth over nine million Afs have been completed and put into operation in southern Ghazni and Helmand provinces, officials said on Thursday.

Eng. Nazir Sahar, technical engineer of the Ghazni River Zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News two small check dams have been built in the Khozio locality of Gailan and Seh Kansa locality of Muqar districts.

He said the two check dams have the capacity to store 69,200 cubic metres water and cost five million afs.

These dams are built to store rainwater and snow, prevent flood damage, irrigate crops, and recharge groundwater.

Local residents have demanded the construction of more check dams in the district.

Dur Mohammad, a resident of Moqar district, said the construction of one check dam is not enough at the district level and demand more similar projects.

This comes at a time when the government has begun construction of check dams in almost all districts, some of which have already been completed.

Separately, a drinking water distribution network inaugurated in Helmand province.

The Governor Spokesperson Mohammad Qasim Riyaz told Pajhwok Afghan News that a drinking water distribution project opened in the Washair district.

He said the project cost 4.5 million afs provided by the UN support fund.

Tens of people provided work opportunities while 110 families would be provided with clean drinking water.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier, UNICEF supported similar projects in different areas.
