JALALABAD (Pajhwok): An armed robber was gunned down during a shootout with security forces in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Saturday.
Deputy Director of police headquarters Maulvi Mohammad Tahir Mubariz said some robbers snatched a mobile phone and other items from a person in front of the police headquarters building. They tried to flee from the area in a rickshaw in Jalalabad city at 7:30am.
He said the rickshaw driver was killed by security forces after he did not stop despite being signaled and the robbers opened fire at the security forces
The shootout happened after the victim called police, but when security forces ordered them to stop, they fired shots at the soldiers from the rickshaw, Mubariz added.
According to Mubariz, the stolen items were recovered from the rickshaw driver’s pockets and police have launched an investigation to arrest the other fleeing robbers.
He said a soldier was also injured in the incident.
On the other hand, in a statement, the Nangarhar media office confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, Raihan, a resident, told Pajhwok Afghan News that first shots were fired and then some people fled from the rickshaw.
He said he didn't know anything else about the incident, but a person was killed in the rickshaw.
