GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Construction of a retaining wall and a canal have been completed at cost of 18 million afghanis and put into use in southern Ghanzi province, an official said on Thursday.
At the opening ceremony, sectoral and professional director of Municipality Ahmad Madani said the 671-meter-long and four-meter-high retaining wall was built in Qala-i-Jawz area of Ghazni city to prevent flooding.
Madani said construction of a 271-meter-long and 2.5-meter-wide canal has been completed and put into service in Shah Mir area of the city.
These projects, funded by United Nations Office for Projects Services (UNOPS), consumed 18 million afghanis, he added.
According to Madani, the projects were completed in three months, providing work to 150 people.
On the other hand, residents are also happy with the construction of the canal and the retaining wall.
Abdullah, a resident of Qala-i-Jawz area, told Pajhwok Afghan News floods caused financial and life losses to people, but now this problem will be largely resolved in the area.
Earlier, construction and development projects have been implemented in the center and districts.
