KABUL (Pajhwok): An FM radio station named “Sarobi” has launched broadcasts in the Sarobi district of Kabul province.
Hijratullah Safi, director of the radio station, told Pajhwok Afghan News the district -- home to thousands of families -- previously had no media outlet.
He said the radio station officially started broadcasting on 88.1 MHz FM on Sunday. Besides news bulletins, it will air programmes on religion, culture, sports and social issues, as well as women's and children's rights.
He added the radio station’s establishment accounted for over one million afghanis. It has employed eight people, including women.
He explained the broadcasts would cover Surobi and Khak-i-Jabar districts, as well as Tagab district in Kapisa and Badpakh in Laghman.
The radio station would expand its coverage area in the future, Safi promised.
