FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A young miner has died as a result of the collapse of a gold-washing workshop in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Monday.
Khwahan district chief Maulvi Abdul Rashid Reshad said the workshop’s cave-in in the Namazpas area along Amu River claimed the miner’s life.
He added the victim’s body was pulled out from the rubble by area people and handed over to his family.
Unemployed youth of the area, who are forced into gold-washing, earn between 300 and 500 afs per day to meet needs of their families.
