Heavy snowfall closes routes in Bamyan, Daikundi

BAMYAN CITY/ NEILI (Pajhwok): Highways in central Daikundi and Bamyan provinces have been closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall and storms.

Bamyan Governor’s spokesman Sabour Farzan Saighani, told Pajhwok Afghan News after recent snowfall, routes of Kotal Qonaq between Bamyan and Daikundi, Kotal Shato between Yakawulang No. 1 and Punjab districts, Kotal Abqol Kerman connecting Bamyan with Ghor, Siah Dara Punjab and Pul Bandshui linking Bamyan with Maidan Wardak, and Kotal Bakak between Bamyan and Ghor have been closed against traffic.

He said the Bamyan-Kabul road had been blocked at Kotl-e-Hajigag, but it was reopened through Kotl-e-Shibar.

According to Saighani, heavy snowfall and storms continued to lash these roads, Bamyan’s Public Works Department is trying to keep all these routes open.

Meanwhile, officials explained public transportation routes, including the Kotal Qonaq highway at the Daikundi-Bamyan safari point, have been closed for traffic by snowfall and blizzards.

These routes have been blocked since last night, said Ghazanfar Kazemi, spokesman for Daikundi governor.

According to Kazemi, nearly 50 centimeters of snow has fallen in most areas in the province.

Daikundi’s Public Works Department is trying to reopen these roads once the weather improves.

The spokesman asked all transport companies and passengers to strictly avoid unnecessary travel until further notice.
