Salang highway closed due to snowfall, storm

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Salang Highway, which links Kabul with the northern provinces, has been closed to all traffic due to heavy snowfall, a storm and poor visibility, an official said on Tuesday.

Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), said in a post on his X that the key highway was temporarily closed to all passenger and cargo vehicles from 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday until further notice.

He added that vehicles on both sides of the highway had been cleared, and personnel from the Salang maintenance and protection department were on standby to remove snow and reopen the road once weather conditions improve and the storm subsides.
