Gold, petrol, sugar prices up in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of flour, sugar, gold, petrol and liquefied gas surged in the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Saturday.

A worker at the Ahmadyar fuel station told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of one litre of petrol rose from 64afs to 67afs, while the price of diesel remained stable at 65afs.

Mohammad Jan Amin, a shopkeeper in the Dahan-i-Bagh area of Kabul, said the price of one litre of liquefied gas increased from 52afs to 56afs.

Food Items

Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders’ Association, said the price of a 49-kg sack of Kazakh flour rose from 1,460afs to 1,520afs, while a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar went up from 3,070afs to 3,450afs.

He added that the prices of other essential food items remained unchanged. A 24-kg bag of Indian rice stayed at 3,000afs, a 16-litre bottle of Malaysian cooking oil at 1,850afs, one kilogramme of African black tea at 380afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea at 350afs.

Safi noted that in some cases, retail prices differ slightly from wholesale prices, while in others, the difference is more significant.

Hamid Sufizada, a retailer at Dahna-i-Bagh market, said the retail price of a 49-kg bag of Kazakh flour was 1,750afs, a 24-kg bag of Indian rice 3,050afs, and a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar 3,500afs.

A 16-litre bottle of cooking oil cost 1,900afs, one kilogramme of black tea 400afs, and the same quantity of green tea 430afs.

Gold prices

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in the Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gramme of Arabian gold increased from 7,450afs to 7,900afs, while the same amount of Russian gold rose from 5,950afs to 6,290afs.

Gold dealers said fluctuations in local gold prices are linked to changes in international markets.

Currency rates

Haji Mohammad Hussain, owner of Sadaqat Money Exchange Service, said one US dollar traded at 64.80afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees exchanged for 218afs. During the previous week, one US dollar traded at 64.10afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 215afs.
