KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Standards and Quality Authority (ASQA) says it has returned 40 tonnes of substandard angle iron to the exporting country at the Islam Qala port in order to protect domestic markets and safeguard consumer rights.
In a statement, the authority said the shipment failed to meet national standards and was rejected following a comprehensive assessment and strict quality control procedures.
ASQA added that quality inspection and control measures are being implemented regularly, transparently, and rigorously at all ports across the country, with no leniency shown toward imports that could pose risks to society.
The authority urged traders to strictly comply with national standards and to fulfil their religious and national responsibilities by ensuring the supply of safe and high-quality goods in the market.
It also announced that more than 26 tonnes of substandard bitumen sheets (isogam) had been returned from Islam Qala port to the exporting country.
