KABUL (Pajhwok): The governor of northeastern Badakhshan and diplomats from Tajikistan’s embassy have discussed strengthening trade and economic ties, improving border management, creating joint border markets and exploring ways to reopen Tajikistan’s consulate in the province.
A statement from the Badakhshan governor’s media office said Mawlavi Mohammad Ismail Ghaznawi, governor of Badakhshan, met Khurshid Adinazoda, military attaché, and Nazarali, first secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Afghanistan, at the provincial office.
According to the statement, the meeting was held in coordination with Badakhshan’s Department of Foreign Affairs and focused on key bilateral issues, particularly ways to strengthen trade and economic relations between the two countries, improve border management, establish and expand joint markets in border areas between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, and examine possibilities for reopening Tajikistan’s consulate in Badakhshan.
The media office added that both sides emphasized expanding cooperation in various sectors, including facilitating legal travel, increasing trade exchanges, creating new investment opportunities and sustaining long-term cooperation aimed at ensuring stability and prosperity for the people of both countries.
Officials from both sides described such meetings as important and effective in strengthening friendly relations and good neighbourliness between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, and stressed the need for continued engagement.
