11 killed, 31 injured in bus crash in Mexico

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 11 people have been killed and 31 others injured after a tourist bus crashed in the western Mexican state of Nayarit.

According to Reuters, the incident occurred on Friday during the Labor Day holiday weekend, turning what was meant to be a leisure trip into a tragedy.

The bus, traveling from the state of Jalisco, veered off the highway and overturned near the town of Amatlán de Cañas, the Nayarit state government said. Officials noted that the passengers were en route to a recreational center.

Emergency crews from Nayarit and Jalisco responded to the scene, closing the road to carry out rescue operations and investigate the cause of the crash.

Authorities confirmed that at least 11 people were killed and 31 others injured.

The report added that fatal road accidents—particularly involving buses—are relatively common in Latin America, including Mexico, where similar incidents have previously resulted in heavy casualties.
