KABUL (Pajhwok): Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to visit Türkiye on Thursday to strengthen economic ties and reduce Canada’s dependence on the United States, Reuters reported.
Carney and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are expected to sign a declaration to deepen cooperation in four areas, including defence and energy.
Carney’s office said the visit aims to strengthen Canada’s position as a key partner in trade and investment.
Canada signed more than 20 trade agreements last year, the report said, adding that Carney aims to double Canadian exports to countries outside the US over the next decade.
Carney is seeking to diversify Canada’s trade relations amid sweeping tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.
