US warship struck by missiles near Strait of Hormuz: Reports

KABUL (Pajhwok): Two missiles reportedly struck a US Navy vessel near Jask in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday after it allegedly ignored warnings from Iranian forces, a media report said.

Iran’s Fars News Agency, citing local sources, reported that the vessel was targeted after failing to comply with warnings issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

In a statement, the IRGC said its naval forces had earlier prevented US warships from entering the strait with what it described as a “firm and swift warning,” adding that further details would be released later.

Iranian state television also reported that the country’s navy had blocked the entry of “American-Zionist” vessels into the waterway.

The development comes as US President Donald Trump said earlier that the United States would begin efforts to free ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Iranian military officials warned that any presence of foreign forces, particularly US troops, in the strait would trigger a military response.

Reports suggest that since the start of the conflict, Iran has halted a large portion of maritime traffic in the Gulf, significantly affecting global oil and gas supplies.
