KABUL (Pajhwok): At least three people have died and 17 others remain missing after a multi-storey building under construction collapsed in Angeles City, Philippines, a media report said on Monday.

Al Jazeera reported, citing Maria Lia Segili, information officer at the Philippine Bureau of Fire Protection, that of the two people pulled from the rubble, one initially showed signs of life but later died, while the second suffered a heart attack while trapped under the debris and also lost his life.

Segili said rescue teams were also trying to recover the body of another individual from beneath the wreckage, but the person would not be included in the official toll until recovery is completed.

The report said 17 people had been listed as missing, most of them construction workers who were at the site when the incident occurred.

The fire service official added that there remained hope of finding more survivors under the debris, as thermal scans had detected signs of breathing and heart activity.

According to authorities, around 70 people had been working on the project, but many had returned home because of the weekend break.
