BAZARAK (Pajhwok): Police in central Panjshir province have urged tourists to avoid swimming in deep and hazardous areas, warning that 17 people drowned in the province’s rivers during the 1404 solar year (2025–26).

In a statement, Panjshir police spokesman Haqmal Saad said most of the victims were visitors who had traveled to the province for sightseeing and recreation.

He noted that with the Eid al-Adha holidays underway, thousands of people are visiting Panjshir each day from across the country to enjoy its natural attractions. Given the high water levels and strong river currents, tourists are advised to refrain from swimming in deep and dangerous sections of rivers.

The statement also called on visitors to observe safety, traffic, and environmental regulations, ensure that children and teenagers are not left unattended near rivers, and follow the instructions of security personnel, rescue teams, and relevant authorities.

Police further urged the public to help maintain cleanliness in recreational areas, rivers, and other public spaces, and to comply with measures aimed at preserving public order.

According to the statement, adherence to these guidelines is crucial for preventing accidents and safeguarding lives.
