Kabul (Pajhwok): Israel has carried out airstrikes on Beirut, prompting retaliatory attacks by Iran and Hezbollah against Israel. US President Donald Trump said he would ask Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from responding militarily and urged Tehran to return to the negotiating table.

According to reports, Israel conducted airstrikes on Beirut on Sunday despite the existing ceasefire with Lebanon.

Iranian media reported that Iran responded to the Israeli strikes by launching missiles at Israel. At the same time, Hezbollah is also reported to have fired missiles toward Israeli territory.

Trump said he plans to speak with Netanyahu and urge him not to retaliate against Iran’s attacks.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the Iranian strikes could negatively affect the ongoing negotiations and called on Tehran to resume diplomatic talks.

The remarks come despite Trump’s earlier warnings that Iran could face military action and severe consequences if it refused to return to negotiations. He is now calling for restraint from Israel while urging Tehran to re-engage in dialogue.
