KABUL (Pajhwok): Germany have advanced to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 2–1 victory over Ivory Coast on Sunday.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
According to reports, the two sides met in the latest round of group-stage matches on Sunday morning, where Germany secured a 2–1 win to book their place in the next round.
Deniz Undav scored both goals for Germany, while Franck Kessié netted the only goal for Ivory Coast.
Afghan-origin midfielder Nadiem Amiri, who represents Germany, also featured in the match and played a key role in his side’s victory.
According to the BBC, Amiri is a German citizen of Afghan origin. He was born on 27 October 1996 in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
