KABUL (Pajhwok): A man and his teenage son have been found alive under the rubble in a town about 40km north of Caracas, as the death toll from last week’s twin earthquakes in Venezuela rose to 1,450, media reports said.

The Guardian, citing AFP journalists, reported that the pair were rescued in Caraballeda on Sunday by French and American rescue teams, nearly four days after powerful quakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck the region.

The earthquakes destroyed nearly 200 buildings, while around 774 others were severely damaged, according to officials.

Interim president Delcy Rodríguez praised ongoing rescue efforts, saying survivors were still being pulled from the rubble and operations would continue. “We always hold on to hope,” she said.

However, thousands remain missing as the critical 72-hour rescue window has passed, while widespread damage has left millions without access to basic services such as sanitation.

Authorities said the disaster has killed at least 1,450 people and injured more than 3,100, with the toll expected to rise as search operations continue.
