KABUL (Pajhwok): A 41-year-old Afghan woman Yasamin Ataye has been killed in the city of Sherbrooke in Canada’s Quebec province, with her son arrested and charged in connection with her death, media reports said on Tuesday.

Canadian broadcaster CBC reported that police officers were dispatched to a house on Létourneau Street on Thursday night after a neighbour reported a domestic disturbance.

It said officers found Yasamin Ataye with severe injuries after entering the house. She was taken to hospital but later died.

CBC, quoting the Sherbrooke Police Service, reported that the incident followed a domestic dispute, during which the suspect allegedly fatally injured his mother with a blunt object inside the house.

According to Canadian media reports, Ramish Ataye appeared before a Sherbrooke court on Friday, where he was charged with second-degree murder, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

It said a minor was also found injured inside the house and was taken to hospital for treatment, leading to the additional charges of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

The minor’s condition was not reported to be serious.

According to the reports, because a minor is involved in the case, the court has prohibited the publication of the identities of underage victims and witnesses.

CBC did not mention Yasamin Ataye’s nationality, but Khaama Press reported that she was Afghan.
