KABUL (Pajhwok): Human Rights Watch (HRW), citing a report by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), has called for an impartial investigation into Pakistan’s airstrikes on Afghanistan, which killed at least 28 civilians, including women and children, and injured 49 others.
In a report released on Wednesday, HRW said the attacks have raised serious concerns about the protection of civilians and the growing toll on non-combatants.
According to UNAMA, Pakistani military operations during the first three months of 2026 killed or injured more than 750 Afghan civilians, with the majority of casualties resulting from airstrikes in eastern and southern Afghanistan.
HRW urged authorities to conduct an independent and impartial investigation into possible violations of international humanitarian law.
The report also said Pakistani rocket attacks and cross-border shelling forced the closure of 19 health centres, further disrupting access to essential medical services.
HRW stressed that, under international humanitarian law, all parties to a conflict are obliged to protect civilians and take every feasible precaution to minimize harm to the civilian population.
