KABUL (Pajhwok): Prices of fuel, liquefied gas, flour, cooking oil and sugar increased, while gold prices declined during the outgoing week in Kabul markets.

A worker at the Wazirabad fuel station said the price of one litre of petrol rose from 77afs to 82afs, while diesel increased from 73afs to 74afs.

Mohammad Jan Amin, a shopkeeper in Kabul’s Dahan-i-Bagh area, said the price of one kilogram of liquefied gas increased from 64afs to 75afs.

Meanwhile, gas prices varied in different parts of the city. Ahmad Farid, a gas seller in the 16th district, said the price of one kilogram of liquefied gas had increased from 75afs to 80afs compared to last Saturday.

Fuel sellers attributed the rise in prices to renewed clashes between the US and Iran, saying fuel imports from Iran had currently stopped.

Officials also linked the increase to global and regional developments, stressing that market controls were being strengthened and prices were expected to decline soon.

Food items

Zamari Safi, head of the Food Traders Union in Kabul, said the wholesale price of a 49-kilogram sack of Kazakh flour increased from 1,580afs to 1,600afs, a 49-kilogram sack of Indian sugar from 2,600afs to 2,700afs, and a 16-litre bottle of Malaysian cooking oil from 1,850afs to 1,900afs.

According to Safi, prices of other essential food items remained unchanged, including a 24-kilogram bag of Indian rice at 2,500afs, one kilogram of African black tea at 380afs and one kilogram of Indonesian green tea at 350afs.

Hamid Sufizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh market, said a 49-kilogram sack of Kazakh flour was sold for 1,650afs, a 24-kilogram bag of Indian rice for 2,550afs and a 49-kilogram sack of Indian sugar for 2,750afs.

He added that a 16-litre bottle of cooking oil was sold for 1,900afs, while one kilogram of black tea cost 400afs and green tea 430afs.

Gold prices

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in the Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold decreased from 7,170afs to 6,960afs, while Russian gold declined from 5,720afs to 5,550afs per gram.

Gold traders said fluctuations in local gold prices were linked to changes in international markets.

Haji Mohammad Hussain, owner of Sadaqat Money Exchange Service, told Pajhwok Afghan News that one US dollar was traded at 66afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees exchanged for 230afs.

Last week, one US dollar was traded at 66.50afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 230afs.
