KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 13 people, including children, were killed and dozens of others wounded in fresh Russian attacks across Ukraine on Thursday, a media report said.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces targeted military facilities in Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk and several other regions of Ukraine, as well as three cargo ships.
According to Reuters, Ukrainian officials said one person was killed and two others wounded in Kyiv, while six people, including two children, lost their lives in the Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions.
It said a Russian ballistic missile struck a house belonging to a large family in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, killing six people and injuring eight others. Two girls, aged five and 12, were among those killed. Local authorities warned the death toll could rise.
It added Russian missiles struck two residential buildings in Lviv, near the Polish border, injuring at least 26 people. Rescue workers were searching for people trapped beneath the rubble.
Reuters reported Zelensky, who recently returned from a visit to the United States, said US President Donald Trump had approved the production or use of Patriot air defence systems for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Polish military said it had scrambled fighter jets to safeguard the country’s airspace following the Russian attacks on Ukraine.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defence systems shot down 258 Ukrainian drones overnight. Reuters said it could not independently verify the reports.
