KABUL (Pajhwok): UK Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan Ed Hadley says his country has allocated three billion afghanis for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan over the next three years.
He made the announcement during a meeting with Director-General of the Office of the Prime Minister Dr. Mullah Abdul Wasi at the Presidential Palace, according to a post on X by Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Deputy spokesman Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat.
Hadley said: “What I have seen in Afghanistan in practice is very different from the negative narratives we hear in London.”
He also welcomed the opening of the humanitarian corridor between Afghanistan and Pakistan, describing it as a positive step toward ensuring the timely delivery of aid to people in need.
For his part, Abdul Wasi said the IEA sought constructive engagement and mutual respect with all countries.
He said the Afghan government had consistently cooperated with humanitarian organisations to ensure assistance reached vulnerable and deserving families in a transparent and timely manner.
“We understand the challenges facing the Afghan people and, within our available resources, the relevant authorities are making continuous efforts to address them,” he said.
Abdul Wasi added that dialogue and exchanges strengthened relations between countries, saying that “harsh rhetoric and hostility” could not resolve problems.
He said the IEA was fulfilling its responsibilities and sought positive relations and constructive engagement with neighbouring countries, the region and the wider international community based on mutual respect.
