The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation says the bodies of three Afghan migrants who died in a fire in Italy have been transported to Kabul.
Italian authorities said in Jawza this year that three Afghans and one Pakistani national had been burned alive inside a vehicle during a deadly attack in Amendolara, in the province of Cosenza in southern Italy.
According to reports, the incident occurred at a fuel station.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said the bodies of the three Afghan migrants, who died in the fire on 11 Jawza, were transported to Kabul on 5 and 6 Asad.
The ministry said the victims were residents of Balkh, Parwan and Nangarhar provinces. According to the statement, they were killed after a Pakistani national set their vehicle on fire because of what the ministry described as a personal dispute.
The statement said the ministry assigned three ambulances to transport the bodies from Kabul airport.
Ismatullah’s body was taken to Sholgara district in Balkh province, Fazl Amin’s body to Kabul’s 12th district and Amjad Safi’s body to Koh-i-Safi district in Parwan province.
Expressing sympathy with the victims’ families, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation called on the international community to pay greater attention to the situation of Afghan migrants and protect them from harm and violence.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, reacting to the incident and the deliberate killing of the four people, said she had been deeply shaken and described it as a “horrific crime.”
