KABUL (Pajhwok): A total of 363 families, comprising 1,950 people, returned to Afghanistan from neighbouring Iran and Pakistan in a single day, an official said on Tuesday.
Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), shared the daily report of the High Commission for Addressing Returnees’ Problems on his X account.
According to the report, 291 families, comprising 1,602 people, returned and were registered through the Torkham crossing.
It said 258 families, comprising 1,454 people, were transported from Torkham to Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Kabul provinces, with more than 944,000 afghanis provided to cover their transport costs.
It added that 297 families at Torkham received a total of 2.404 million afghanis in cash assistance, while health and telecommunications services were also provided at the Omari Camp.
It said 42 families, comprising 242 people, also returned through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province.
According to officials, 27 families, comprising 156 people, were transported to different provinces and received more than 319,000 afghanis for transport expenses.
The commission added that 43 families at Spin Boldak received a total of 364,000 afghanis in assistance, along with food, health and telecommunications services.
The report said 19 families, comprising 64 people, returned through the Abresham crossing in Nimroz province, while 503 individual travellers also re-entered the country.
Four families received a total of 32,000 afghanis in cash assistance, and a number of returnees were provided with health services.
It added that 11 families, comprising 42 people, returned through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat province, with a total of 78,000 afghanis distributed among them.
Meanwhile, the Transport Committee transferred 33 families, comprising 200 people, from Kabul to different provinces and provided more than 154,000 afghanis to cover their transport costs.
Overall, the report said 363 families, comprising 1,950 people, returned to Afghanistan, 318 families, comprising 1,810 people, were transported to different provinces, 355 families received assistance and 363 SIM cards were distributed.
Fitrat also said the Permanent Settlement and Land Distribution Committee allocated residential land plots to 693 families in Nangarhar, 150 in Faryab, 100 in Bamyan, 112 in Nimroz and 108 returnee families in Paktika.
According to the report, a total of 1,163 returnee families received land plots on Tuesday, bringing the nationwide total to 65,155 families.
