KABUL (Pajhwok): Seven Uzbek citizens have been killed in a drone attack in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, the Uzbek Consulate in Kazan said.

The attack took place in Tatarstan on Monday, Reuters reported.

The Uzbek Consulate did not immediately provide further details about the victims.

Russian officials had earlier said that at least 13 people, including a child, were killed and 39 others wounded in a Ukrainian drone attack targeting industrial and civilian facilities in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan.

According to reports, an oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk was also targeted in the attack, with smoke seen rising from the facility.

Between two and three million Uzbek citizens, from Central Asia’s most populous country, work in Russia. Remittances sent by migrant workers make up an important part of Uzbekistan’s economy.

Uzbekistan has sought to maintain a diplomatic balance over the war in Ukraine, maintaining close ties with Russia while also expressing support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
