Belarus ready to cooperate on petroleum imports to Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Belarus has expressed readiness to cooperate with Afghanistan on the transportation and import of petroleum products and sign direct agreements with Afghan government institutions and private-sector companies.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Friday that Acting Deputy Minister Mawlavi Ahmadullah Zahid held talks with Belarusian Deputy Trade Minister Vlad Mirvoyevich Ryzhkovsky, Deputy Head of the country’s oil administration Vladimir Silvich Sizov and Deputy Head of the Belarus Investment Chamber Gennady Vikentovich Kliga.

According to the ministry, the two sides discussed increasing bilateral trade, expanding Afghan exports, importing petroleum products from Belarus, investment opportunities in Afghanistan, cooperation in the industrial and energy sectors, and strengthening ties between the private sectors of the two countries.

The two sides stressed the need to make effective use of existing economic potential, expand trade relations, develop joint investments and create opportunities for practical cooperation, the ministry said.

The Belarusian side also assured that it would take necessary steps to establish direct cooperation and sign agreements with Afghan government institutions and private-sector companies on the transportation and import of petroleum products.

The meeting comes as Afghanistan seeks to expand economic and trade relations with countries in the region and beyond, increase exports and attract greater investment and economic cooperation.
