KABUL (Pajhwok): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says US envoys will travel to Kyiv and Moscow in the coming days as Washington seeks to revive efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The Guardian reported on Friday that Zelenskyy said in a video address that preliminary dates for the meetings had been set and that Ukraine was awaiting a visit from representatives of US President Donald Trump.
“Meetings with them are planned in Moscow and Kyiv, and we expect them to take place in the coming days. It is very important that the United States continues to play an active role,” Zelenskyy said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that there was still an opportunity to end the war in Ukraine and reach a peace agreement, according to The Guardian.
Speaking at an economic forum, Putin said several countries, including the United States and China, were ready to support a peace deal. However, he said the matter ultimately had to be resolved by Russia and Ukraine, the two countries directly involved in the conflict.
“Is there an opportunity? In my view, yes, there is,” Putin said.
Trump has also said he wants to end the war and prevent further casualties on both sides. In an interview with GB News, he said: “I just want to see the war end. I think we’re going to accomplish that.”
Trump added that he would ask European countries to reimburse the United States for the costs it had previously incurred in providing military assistance and ammunition to Ukraine.
The Guardian also reported, citing Russian and Ukrainian officials, that attacks and casualties continued on both sides.
Russian officials said four people, including two healthcare workers, were killed in a Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Belgorod region on Thursday. Three others were reportedly injured.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy said a Russian drone strike damaged a Coca-Cola factory near Kyiv, but no one was injured.
Ukrainian officials said 10 people were injured in a Russian attack on Kyiv on Thursday, which also caused severe damage to a high-rise residential building.
