SAR-I-PULCITY(PAN): A police checkpoint commander has been killed in an insurgent attack in northern Sar-i-Pul province, officials said on Monday.
The commander, Mohammad Rasul, was heading toward the checkpoint in Imam, police chief, Brig. Gen. Asadulalh Sherzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The attackers also took away a pistol of Mohammad Rasul, he said.
A resident of the area, Ghulam Nabi, 34, said the checkpoint commander was riding a bike when ambushed by Taliban. The fighters fled after killing Rasul, he added.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said a policeman was killed and two others, including a checkpoint commander, were injured when their patrolling convoy hit a roadside bomb in Sayad district.
