KABUL): Italian economic development minister Paolo Romani on Saturday briefed President Hamid Karzai on a sketch for the expansion of Herat International Airport.
Romani, who called on Karzai at the Presidential Palace, said the map had been prepared and studied by a technical expert team from Italy, a statement issued from the Karzai’s spokesman office said.
Karzai praised the contribution of Italy toward Afghanistan‘s development, and directed the transport and aviation minister to present the map in the cabinet’s next meeting.
The president said the cabinet meeting would thoroughly discuss all aspects of the map to ensure required arrangements.
Italy has pledged 137 million Euros for the expansion of the Herat airport, the second largest after Kabul airport. The project also included the construction of a 28-kilometre ring road.
