LASHKARGAH (PAN): Two policemen were killed in a bomb blast in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province, on Thursday, officials said.
The explosion occurred when a bomb disposal squad was defusing another roadside bomb on the eastern outskirts of the city, police officer, Col. Mohammad Ismail, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The incident happened at around 10am, inflicting casualties on several people, he said. He had no exact figure for casualties.
However, a security official, who wished anonymity, said two policemen were killed and a third wounded in the detonation. The injured policeman was evacuated to a nearby hospital, he said.
The Afghan security personnel had cordoned off the area, said resident Gul Rahim, who added it was a powerful explosion that jerked the area.
