CHARIKAR): A man has been arrested by intelligence operatives for plotting to assassinate the governor of central Parwan province, an official said on Thursday.
The detainee confessed to the conspiracy following his arrest last week, the governor’s spokeswoman, Roshna Khalid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The man had received training for two years from a terrorist group leader, Mullah’s North Waziristan tribal region, she said, quoting intelligence agents.
Documents recovered from the detainee proved he wanted to kill the governor by detonating a roadside bomb and using a rocket.
Separately, 14 anti-tank mines, two Kalashnikovs, seven pistols, 20 RPG, nine mortar shells, 30 boxes of cartridges, a walkie-talkie, 76 artillery shells and ammunitions were seized in Bagram and Siyah Gird districts of the province.
No arrest could be made in connection with the seizure, but an investigation had been launched, the gubernatorial spokeswoman said.
Meanwhile, two Taliban were killed and a third wounded during a clash with police on the outskirts of Shiberghan, the capital of northern Jawzjan province.
Two motorcycles, four rocket shells and ammunitions were recovered as a result of the gunbattle, said the police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Aziz Ghairat.
Four suspects, who were taken into custody after the firefight, were being interrogated, he said.
