JALALABAD (PAN): Eight militants were killed during an hours-long gun-battle with border police in the Lalpur district of eastern Nangarhar province on Friday, an official said.
Border police spokesman Mohammad Idris Momand told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash broke out after the rebels attacked a border police post in Chinar area.
Eight attackers were killed and three others were injured in the engagement that lasted five hours, he added.
The district chief Haji Abdul Qayum said the dead bodies of the militants were still lying at the site. The police suffered no casualty during the firefight.
But Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, claimed four policemen were killed and seven others injured in the attack. He confirmed the death of only one fighter and injuries to two others during the skirmish.
