CHARIKAR): Five members of a local police force were arrested on Wednesday in the Seyah Gard district of northern Parwan province, after they beat shopkeepers in the town’s bazaar, an official said.
The arrests came a day after one local policeman was killed and three others were wounded in an attack blamed on the rebels, provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Rahman Sarjang told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Local police members attacked six shopkeepers on the suspicion of being involved, and beat them up, he said.
The beating incident sparked a partial shutter down strike by shopkeepers, demanding the arrest of the local police members. The strike ended in the afternoon, Sarjang said.
“Shopkeepers got angry after local policemen physically abused their colleagues for no justification,” said Mohammad Masoom Mujadidi, a shopkeeper.
