JALALABAD (PAN): Five insurgents and two Afghan Local Police (ALP) members were killed during clashes in eastern Laghman province, official said on Monday.
The governor’s spokesman, Sarhadi Zwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News militants attacked the police post in the Maidani area on the Mehtarlam-Alingar highway.
He said the assault sparked an exchange of fire that killed one militant was injured another.
Four insurgents were killed in a gunbattle with ALP in Alingar district, according to Zwak, who said two ALP officials were killed and one sustained injuries.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the attacks but gave no further details.
Separately, five people were detained during overnight operations in different parts of western Farah province, police chief Abdul Samad Shams said.
The detainees were complicit recent explosions in the province, the police chief alleged, saying explosives and bomb-making materials had been seized from them.
