KABUL commander was among seven insurgents detained during separate security operations in eastern Nuristan and central Logar provinces, officials said on Wednesday.
Logar deputy police chief Col. Abdul Wali Topan Tarakai told Pajhwok Afghan News that six militants were captured this noon during an operation in the Babos area on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.
He said a large quantity of weapons and explosives was also seized during the operation. He said the detainees were involved in a number of terrorist attacks and they were being interrogated.
Meanwhile, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said a Pakistani Taliban commander had been arrested in Nuristan province.
A statement from the spy service identified the detainee as Miftahuddin, a resident of Pakistan’s northwestern Chitral district that borders Nuristan and Kunar.
It alleged the Pakistani militant leader wanted to carry out attacks during the April elections. He sneaked into Kunar’s Narai town reaching Kamdesh, where he was arrested on Wednesday.
The NDS statement said the detainee, who possessed heavy weapons, had confessed to his crimes.
