NSC vows retaliation to Pakistani incursions

KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Security Council (NCS) on Sunday said the number of Pakistani fighters and advisors joining ranks of Afghan insurgents has increased and warned retaliation to cross border incursions.

The NSC, which met at the Presidential Palace with President Karzai in the chair, discussed the security situation including recent insurgent attacks in the Hesarak district of eastern Nangarhar province and rocket attacks from Pakistan into Kunar, a statement from the palace said.

The NSC said that documents provided by security organs clearly indicated a surge in Pakistani militants and advisors joining Taliban insurgents’ ranks.

The statement said the evidence clearly showed Pakistan was not committed to the war against terrorism and instead continued supporting insurgents.

The meeting participants said Pakistan had increased rocket attacks on Dangam and Shegal districts of Kunar and warned of revenge attacks if the shelling continued.

The meeting also discussed recent attacks in Hesarak district and the statement said the attacks had been plotted by Pakistani advisors.

It said Afghan security forces in cooperation with people killed 134 militants in Hesarak and appreciated people’s and the district chief’s cooperation with security forces. The NSC directed security agencies to intensify efforts at countering terrorist attacks.
