KABUL): Three policemen were injured in a bomb blast in Deh Mazang area of Kabul City on Sunday, an official said.
The explosion took place near a police checkpoint in the Deh Mazang Square area at 11:30am, the spokesman for the 101st police zone, Hashmatullah Stanikzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The injured policemen were taken to a nearby hospital, he said, adding that an investigation had been opened into the incident.
A Pajhwok reporter observed damage to the checkpoint and the shattered windows of a nearby post-office.
Initial investigation indicates that a mortar shell landed in the area, Col. Najibullah Samsor, head of third police district, said.
“The blast was not heavy but there was smoke in the area for a few minutes,” a passerby, Ahmad Mujtaba, said.
He stopped his car at a filling station when people took three injured policemen to hospital after the explosion, he said.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.
