TARINKOT (Pajhwok): The acting police chief for central Uruzgan province has been killed by his police guard, an official said on Sunday.
Col Gulab Khan was gunned down at midnight on Saturday when he went out to inspect security posts in the jurisdiction of the first police district of Tarinkot, the provincial capital, the area police chief, 2nd Lt. Gul Agha told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A security guard of Khan attacked him on the way back in Sarkhuram, an area between Dehrawud District and Tarinkot, Agha said.
He said an elder, accompanying the police chief, was also killed and the killer had been arrested.
Khan was the second top police official in Uruzgan province to be killed since mid-March, when his powerful predecessor, Matiullah Khan, was mysteriously found dead in Kabul.
Gul Agha said the detained police officer, who killed the police chief and the elder, had confessed to his crime. However, he did not say what motivated him to kill the police chief.
