KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Eight Taliban, including their group leader,havebeen killed in a US drone strike in northern Kunduz province, an official saidon Sunday.
Lt. Col. Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, spokesman for the 20thPamir Zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drone attack happened Saturday night in the Turkha locality of Dasht-i-Archi district.
He said Qari Haleem,a local Taliban leader who was the main character in in last year’s fall of Dasht-i-Archi, was killed alonghisseven associates.
Karimi said the incident took place while themilitants were planting landmines. A vehicle and some weapons belonging to the rebels were destroyed.
The droneraids are an effective weapon against the Taliban,according to the official, who called for a continuation of the strikes
