KABUL (Pajhwok): A global transport and logistics hub has been set up in Uzbekistan to dispatch humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and other countries.
Interfax reported on Thursday Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had signed a resolution for the creation of the Termez Cargo Centre in Termez.
The hub is designed to provide on a systemic basis targeted delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and other countries by the United Nations, other organisations and foreign countries.
With support from the Uzbek government, the UN refugee agency has shipped 1,000 tonnes of aid to Afghanistan via the Cargo Centre.
Meanwhile, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) pledged $50,000 to support the victims of the earthquake that hit Afghanistan on Wednesday.
SRC said on Thursday the funds would be spent on providing food and water, emergency shelter, trauma care, sanitation and hygiene items.
