SHIBERGHAN (PAN): A woman and a girl hanged themselves to death for unknown reasons in separate incidents in northern Jawzjan province, police said on Thursday.
One of the dead, Razia, a 12-grade student, was found dead in her house in Shiberghan, the provincial capital, on Thursday morning, provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Aziz Ghairat, told reporters.
Razia, a resident of the city, had been engaged to her cousin a year ago and their marriage was due in a couple of days, but the girl committed suicide for unknown reasons, he said. The girl was found dead at her house’s kitchen.
Another girl, Gulzad, 20, was found dead in Farook village of Mardian district, the police chief said.
Ghairat added that Gulzad hanged herself at her bedroom. Her husband is on a job in Kabul, he said, adding both the incidents were being investigated.
“There has been no family dispute, and Gulzad’s husband is a good person,” Rahmatullah, the village council head, said.
A doctor at the provincial civil hospital, Dr. Mirwais, said they found no signs showing violence on the girl.
Afghanistan to poverty, forced marriages and a lack of public awareness about women’s right.
Family members of the two victims could not be reached for comment.
