QALA-I-NAW (PAN due to lack of stadiums, gymnasiums and other facilities necessary for a safe and enjoyable practice of games, officials and the sportsmen said.
Sportsmen in Badghis accuse provincial officials of paying no attention to their problems.
Games like soccer, karate, Kung Fu, volleyball, athletics, Wushu, Basketball and Buzkashi to play indoors games, provincial sports department head, Abdul Karim Wafa, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Wakil Ahmad, a member of the provincial football team, said: “We play football on a dusty ground and as a result many boys have fallen ill.”This is the reason that young people do not show interest in sports,” he said.
Wafa confirmed the problems facing sportsmen in the province, saying no athlete has so far been able to participate in international events. He said sportsmen had never been encouraged in the province. “That’s why there is a lack of interest among youth to participate in sports,” he said.
“Buzkashi has many fans in the province,” Abdul Samad, a Buzkashi player, said. “But the spirit for the game has died among youth for lack of facilities,” he said
The sports director, Wafa, linked lack of facilities for sportsmen to lack of fund. “We cannot even serve teams coming from other provinces for sport events due to a lack of budget,” he said.
The Olympic Committee spokesman, Muhammad Arif Pyman, said they lacked enough funds to build new stadiums and sport halls. However, he said a stadium and a sport gymnasium will be constructed in Badghis with financial support from Japan.
There are about 1,200 athletes officially registered with the sports department in Badghis.
