QALA-I-NAW (PAN): A militant leader joined the peace process along with 10 of his associates in northwestern Badghis province, an official said on Sunday.
Commander Khudadad and 10 of his supporters shunned the insurgency as a result of efforts by the National Directorate of Security, the provincial police chief said.
Col. Abu Bakar told Pajhwok Afghan News the men turned in 10 weapons, including a heavy machine gun. Khudadad had been active for four years in and around Moqur district.
The surrendering Taliban leader urged the government to provide him and his backers with jobs in the local police force.
