KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Hundreds of acres of poppies have been eradicated in the Takhta Pul district of southern Kandahar province, the governor’s office said on Tuesday.
As many as 232 acres of poppies were destroyed during an ongoing campaign by counter narcotics and district police, the Governor’s House said in a statement.
A dozen counternarcotics policemen have been killed and another 44 injured during the poppy-eradication campaign in 10 provinces over the past two months.
Nearly, 2,000 acres of poppies were cleared in Kandahar during the campaign, a source in the provincial police headquarters said.
