KANDAHAR (PAN): Security forces eliminated 375 acres of poppy crop in a week in different parts of southern Kandahar province, officials said on Thursday.
During the campaign launched 45 days ago, many districts of Kandahar have been cleared of the illicit crop, deputy police chief, Col. Shershah Yousafzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said all security agencies were involved in the anti-narcotics drive. Over the past week, 375 acres of poppies were eradicated in the 7th, 14th and Takhta Pul districts of Kandahar City.
The campaign was launched in Panjwai district and extended to Arghandab, Maiwand, Dand, Takhta Pul, Shah Wali Kot and Khakrez. Provincial counternarcotics chief, Gul Mohammad Shukran, said more than 2,300 acres has been cleared so far.
