QALAT (PAN): A local police force started functioning in Arghandab district of southern Zabul province, a government official said on Friday.
The 120-member force, placed under the Ministry of Interior, formally embarked on its duty after a ceremony, said Mohammad Afzal, the district chief.
Addressing the ceremony, the local force commander at the interior ministry hoped the 120 men would play a significant role in bringing security to Arghandab.
Brig. Gen. Alishah Paktiawal urged residents to motivate their youths into swelling Afghan security forces’ ranks and help stabilise their country.
Abdur Rahman, a tribal elder, said the district people were ready for creation of the local force, which would help pave the ground for reconstruction projects.
