KHOST CITY (PAN): Five people, including a pro-government religious scholar, were wounded in a suicide attack in the Zazai Maidan district of southeastern Khost province, officials said on Saturday.
Maulvi Muhammad Amir Mukhlis, in charge of the Khost Radio religious broadcasts, was the bomber’s target, the provincial police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai said three people, including Mukhlis, were wounded in the bombing that happened in the main district bazaar late on Friday night. The injured were under treatment at a district hospital.
But the district police head, Gen. Azizullah Sarwari, put the number of the wounded at five. However, he said their injuries were not life-threatening.
As usual, the Taliban asserted responsibility for the attack, with their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid saying Mukhlis was killed along with five intelligence operatives. A number of other pro-government people were wounded, he added.
