KABUL): Dr. Ashraf Ghani, advisor to President Hamid Karzai, met Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in Islamabad on Friday.
Dr. Ghani, who also heads the joint Afghan-NATO news agency reported.
Bilateral relations and the overall regional situation came up for discussion at the meeting, which took place weeks ahead of the beginning of a drawdown of foreign troops from Afghanistan.
Acting foreign secretary Haroon Shaukat, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Muhammad Sadiq, Afghan Ambassador-designate to Pakistan Muhammad Umer Daudzai were also present on the occasion.
Separately, Ghani also met Gen. Kayani at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. “The visiting dignitary remained with him for some time and discussed matters of mutual interest,” the army said in a statement.
