LASHKARGAH (PAN): The Regional Military Training Centre (RMTC), a US-funded project for the 215th Maiwand Military Corps, was inaugurated in southern Helmand province on Sunday.
High-ranking Afghan and foreign security officials attended the inaugural ceremony in Greshk district, the corps said in a statement.
Col. Shah Wali Khan, the centre commander, told the audience the facility would help considerably in strengthening Afghan forces. Up to 2,000 recruits would be trained at the centre every eight months.
Khan said the recruits were currently being trained under tents and that the construction of new structures inside the centre was ongoing.
He said the centre, a multimillion project financed by the US, would soon have military training rooms, arm depots, playgrounds and other facilities.
